N-Power: NEXIT Portal Brings Closure To N-Power Batch A & B

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was created on August 21, 2019 with a clear mandate to “develop Humanitarian policies and provide effective coordination of National and International Humanitarian interventions; ensure strategic Disaster Mitigation, Preparedness, and Response; and manage the formulation and implementation of fair focused social inclusion and protection programs in Nigeria.”
In line with that mandate, it assumed the role of midwife of the social investment and protection programmes of the Muhammadu Buhari administration as encapsulated under the National Social Protection Policy.
The Federal Government of Nigeria established the National Social Investments Programmes (NSIP) in 2016, to tackle poverty and hunger across the country. The suite of programmes under the NSIP include the N-power programme, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme , Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF).
Launched in 2016, the N-power programme has impacted 500,000 beneficiaries made up of 200,000 from Batch A which started in September 2016 and 300,000 from Batch B which kicked off in August 2018. The beneficiaries were spread across the key industries targeted by the program – Agriculture, Health, Education, and Tax.
The N-power programme is the most popular of the National Social Investments Programmes on account of the fact that the beneficiaries are young and internet savvy and as such are quick to resort to social media to share their views and grievances where they arise.
The N-power programme is also without doubt the most problematic. It was designed to assist young Nigerians between the ages of 18 to 35 acquire and develop life-long skills for entrepreneurship or employability. Beneficiaries on the programme are to receive a N30,000 monthly stipend.
The “problem” arose mostly from delays in payment of stipends following migration to a new payment platform and then a lack of clearly defined exit strategy which had the deleterious effect of extending beneficiaries stay on the programme beyond the advertised 24 months as the programme coordinators rallied to come up with a seamless transition and exit strategy.
There was, therefore, huge uproar when the ministry of humanitarian affairs announced on June 19, 2020 that Batch A and B beneficiaries would be transitioned on June 30th and July 31st, 2020 respectively.
The decibel level was heightened by the further announcement that the application portal for Batch C enrolment would open on Thursday June 26th 2020 thus marking an end to Batch A and B.
The very vocal and internet savvy Batch A and B beneficiaries refused to accept the impending exit even though they had all spent more than the advertised 24 months. They wanted their outstanding stipends paid and a clear exit strategy announced. Many of them recalled that they had been promised an exit loan that would help them set up businesses and become entrepreneurs.
The ministry and the honourable minister have, understandably, been targets of vicious attacks on social media since that announcement in June but last week oil seemed to have been poured on troubled waters when the ministry announced that it had set up the N-power Exit (NEXIT) portal in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria to enable exited N-power beneficiaries log on to and “apply for the various economic, empowerment and entrepreneurship options provided by the CBN.”
To access the options, exited beneficiaries must provide the required information for placements into CBN ‘s intervention options. The NEXIT portal will determine the suitability of applicants and access would be granted upon meeting the criteria and conditions set by the CBN.
The announcement of the launch of the NEXIT portal does not just signpost a fitting finale to the drawn-out transition and exit process for Batch A and B, it has implications for the economy.
When the Buhari administration took office in 2016, it presented what was regarded as a very ambitious vision of taking 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years. The NSIPs were critical to actualizing that vision.
In June 2020, Sadiya Umar Farouq, Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development announced that 109, 829 beneficiaries from Batch A and B had become entrepreneurs who are running small but thriving businesses in their communities. That number did not take into account N-power beneficiaries who had taken advantage of the upskilling programmes to gain employment after passing entrance exams and psychometric tests set by companies.
Viewed from that perspective, it is obvious that the federal government through the N-power programme is bridging the unemployment gap and empowering young Nigerian to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
The corollary is important to help underline the significance because while SMEs may be small, development experts recognize them as the engine rooms of growth for most developing and even developed economies. In Nigeria extant statistics indicate that SMEs contribute 48% of national GDP.
With the NEXIT option by the CBN and ministry of Humanitarian affairs providing a seamless transition for batch A and B beneficiaries, the country will be better for it as the economy will be getting that much needed shot in the arm post- Covid-19.

Breaking: FG Increases NSIP Beneficiaries

The federal government has increased the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP), comprising the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP), Job Creation Unit (N-Power), Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), to accommodate more beneficiaries.
The minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, stated this Monday in Abuja during a ministerial press briefing.

While listing achievements of the ministry since its creation in August last year, Farouq said that the increase in the number of beneficiaries is in line with plans of President Muhammadu Buhari to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years.
She said: “The purpose of this gathering is to acquaint the Nigerian general public with the activities and programmes of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development since inception. There is no better time that validates reasoning behind the creation of the ministry as now. The ministry has at these times of emergencies and national need, relentlessly led efforts in the implementation of a series of coordinated interventions targeted specifically to ease the burden of vulnerable socio-economic segments of the country, before, and during Covid-19 lockdown.

“In order to double the scope of the National Social Investment Programmes, Mr President has graciously approved the expansion of all NSIP programmes, such as increase of N-Power beneficiaries from 500,000 to 1,000,000, increase of GEEP beneficiaries by 1,000,000 and increase of beneficiaries of Home-Grown School Feeding by 5,000,000.
“In championing social inclusion, deliberate efforts were made to capture vulnerable youth and groups which included women, people with special needs, in the expansion of the National Social Register by one million households. Also, in the Economic Sustainability Plan, we have over 1,000,000 urban poor in the National Social Register.
“As of June 2020, 4.41% of the total number of individuals captured in the National Social Register are recognised as Persons with Special Needs. This comes to a total of six hundred and eighty-five thousand and ninety (685,090) Persons with Special Needs in the National Social Register.

“About 3.7 million households comprising more than 15.5 million individuals have been captured on the National Social Register. Of that number, over 2.8 million of the households which comprise 13.5 million Individuals are eligible for Conditional Cash Transfer. This numbers are spread across the 36 states and FCT. The numbers are further broken down to 7.6 million males and 7.9 million females.
“In line with Mr. President’s directive to expand the National Social Register, we have developed a strategy for targeting the urban poor. This register will use existing databases from the National Communications Commission (NCC), and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) from Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS). Here we are collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.”

N-Power: DELAY TACTICS LAUNCHED AGAIN BY THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS, DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT.

The Press released on Friday, 27th November, 2020 by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is another delay tactics just like the Transition form we filled earlier.

No NEXIT portal has been created as claimed by the Ministry. What is now the importance of the TRANSITION FORM the Ministry asked volunteers to fill earlier? They are just trying to buy more time and they don't have meaningful plan for us.

Even the CBN program was not explained and they purposely announced the abstract  NEXIT Portal so that we won't embark on National protest in December. We say NO to another delay tactics from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

We have decided to embark on National Peaceful Protest across all the 36 States and FCT in December which will be announced officially through a Facebook Live Chat on our official Facebook page and to explain how it will go.

BELOW IS OUR REQUEST:

1.  The 36 States and FCT N-Power Representatives request that they be brought and shown the template of the purported Transition.

2. The Transition ( whether absorption into Government agencies or meaningful grants (600,000 or above for  entrepreneurship) must be ready.

3.  Payments of over 14, 000 Unpaid Volunteers from the Month of March to July, 2020 must begin immediately as all documents needed for this has been supplied by the volunteers 2 months ago.

4. All Batch B devices and some batch A devices must be delivered immediately as this forms part of the agreement of engagement.

Nothing short of the above request will be accepted.

N-Power: We Have Had Enough

We have had enough of empowerment this empowerment that.
This present administration seems to be the most deceitful and cunning of all the past administrations in this country. Can any of the so called leaders' sons and daughters be enrolled for this petty and short-lived empowerments.
Do not start to leap up for joy in your hearts and minds when the news broke in the week that the joint portal, NEXIT is to or has been opened by the CBN and FDMH. Mind us all, it is still in the pipeline just like the transition forms that was in circulation and up till date nothing tangible came out of it.
Exited N-Power beneficiaries be wise please. It costs the government nothing to successfully give full time employment to less than 500,000 (some dead while others voluntarily exited) beneficiaries.
And to all our amiable representatives out there across the 36 states and the FCT, i want to urge us not to go or look back on the proposed plans we already have come December 7th.
Ns: I reiterate this portal opening of a thing is to discourage and deceive us from going on with our plans.
Let us all in the end have every reason to say that we saw, we fought and we conquered. It is until this is achieved then we can say we are victorious.

N-Power: Exited Volunteers Reject CBN Loan

EXITED BATCHES A & B N-POWER BENEFICIARIES REJECT CBN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP OPTION
We the entire exited Batches A & B N-POWER beneficiaries including the prospective Batch C members hereby publicly reject the so called CBN economic empowerment and entrepreneurship option which is very far from our demand and not in any way close to The President and the Vice President promises during the 2019 general election.
Our demand is clear, " Absorption or Robust exit package " is what we are agitating for not some kind of empowerment or entrepreneurship option as purported by CBN and Disaster Minister. We hereby advise the Disaster minister to stop mocking herself thinking she is mocking N-POWER beneficiaries because the God we serve will never let us see shame. She should ease off our way and allow the government to treat our case the way it should be treated.
We hereby encourage every single beneficiaries to prepare his/her mattress and blanket for the 7th December, 2020 Ceaseless protest, because we will sleep and wake in front of Aso rock and NASS, also prepare your CV to apply for a job in the Aso Rock and NASS. Our demands will be met before our departure.
Do not be enticed by the CBN purported economic empowerment and entrepreneurship option of course you all know it's their usual way of deceiving the gullible masses to leave them in perpetual bondage, we refuse to be used and dumped. These is enough to let you know the level of callousness in our leaders on issues that concerns the youths.
7th December, 2020 ceaseless protest is no going back, plan to be in attendance, join our fellow comrades on telegram via the link.
